Following last week's violence at a White nationalist rally in Charlottesville, Va., former president Barack Obama shared a poignant response on Twitter, choosing to quote former South African president Nelson Mandela.

In fact, the first of Obama's thread of three tweets, which featured a photograph of the former president smiling at a group of children in a window, has broken a Twitter record to become the most-liked tweet in history.
